Ugandan socialite and businesswoman Zari Hassan has responded to comments from Full Figure, who questioned her spending habits and charitable efforts.

Full Figure recently criticised Zari over the money she spends on lavish birthday celebrations, suggesting that some of her wealth could instead be used to assist people facing financial difficulties.

Responding to the criticism, Zari said people should not feel entitled to money earned by others. She argued that individuals have the right to decide how they use their own resources.

«“Everyone knows how they work for their money, how they suffer to get it. So, if they decide to help you, well and good and if they do not, it is not also a bad thing. Please stop the entitlement,” she said.»

Zari also disputed claims that she does not support charitable causes. According to her, she has assisted people and supported charity initiatives in several African countries, including Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and South Africa.

She revealed that she adopted an orphanage in South Africa, where she said about 76 children are under her care through her company.

«“I have done charities in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and South Africa and still going. I adopted a certain orphanage in South Africa with like 76 children that I take care of under my company,” she said.»

The businesswoman further explained that she does not always publicise the people and causes she supports.

Zari said her decision to keep some of her charitable activities private should not be interpreted as a lack of generosity.

«“I will not come out to explain myself or always show off because you call me stingy. If I have not given you, it doesn’t mean that I do not give someone else. I look after a number of children in Kampala and not put it on the internet and they appreciate me,” she said.»

Her remarks have added to the ongoing conversation surrounding the spending habits of wealthy public figures and whether their charitable contributions need to be publicly documented.
