KBS FM 105.9 officially launched the much-anticipated Lusoga Mpuku 2026 on Sunday, May 17, at the KBS station in Kamuli, with several Busoga musicians, media personalities, and cultural supporters attending the meeting.
During the launch, the chairperson of Olusoga Mpuku, Naika Latifu, gave a detailed background about the cultural event, tracing its journey from its beginning in 2022 up to the present day.
He explained that the competition was not successfully conducted in 2025 due to several challenges, including political-related issues that interrupted the program before completion.
However, he confirmed that Lusoga Mpuku will fully return in 2026 under the new theme, “Olusoga Mpuku Gumite Che Che Kule.”
Naika Latifu further revealed that the contestants who had already been nominated during the unfinished 2025 edition will automatically continue in this year’s competition since their journey was never concluded.
According to him, the 2026 edition will therefore resume from the second phase of the previous competition.
He also announced new additions to the program, including sports activities and more competitive engagements aimed at expanding the event’s entertainment value and community participation.
The competitions are expected to officially begin on June 1, 2026, while the grand finale will take place on August 30, 2026, at Kamuli Playground, commonly known as Kamuli Mukisaawe.
Speaking during the launch, the manager of KBS FM emphasized the importance of involving young people in cultural and media activities.
He encouraged the youth to actively participate in Lusoga Mpuku and other community programs, noting that many of the responsibilities at KBS FM are currently being handled by energetic young workers.
He specifically praised youthful media personalities such as Harry Kovic, a presenter at KBS FM 105.9 known for his hardworking and influential presence on radio.
Harry Kovic hosts the popular “Friday ChaChancha” show every Friday from 10PM to 2AM, featuring music mixes, celebrity interviews, and entertainment discussions.
The manager also recognized Selector PW, a DJ and presenter at KBS FM, for his contribution to the station and youth-driven entertainment programs.
According to the manager, the station strongly believes in the creativity and energy of young people, urging experienced individuals in the industry to create opportunities for the younger generation to take leadership roles and contribute to cultural development.
He once again assured the public that Lusoga Mpuku 2026 will officially take place this year.
Another major activity during the launch meeting involved the election of leaders for the KBS Fans Club, a move aimed at strengthening coordination and mobilization among supporters of the station and the Lusoga Mpuku initiative.
